The Royal Opera is looking for a Tailor, Men's Costume Atelier
Do you want to contribute to an exciting time of change at the Royal Opera and help create world-class performing arts? The Royal Opera is now looking for a tailor for the costume atelier and men's tailoring.
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a tailor in the costume atelier, you will be an important part of ensuring costume production for the Royal Opera and the men's tailoring. You will have an active role in the costume department regarding productions, in collaboration with costume designers and production teams. Daily tasks include supervising tailors, where communication and continuous follow-up are key. You will coordinate costume fittings and ensure that the complex work planning is carried out in the best way for both new and existing productions. The costume unit is part of the Technical section at the Royal Opera. As a tailor, you report to the Head of the Costume Atelier.
Together, we dress our artists on stage for both opera and ballet performances, and we produce approximately 1000 costumes per year!
REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCE PROFILE
As a Tailor who operationally supervises Tailors and collaborates with production teams from different countries, there are high demands on your communication skills. The work is varied with periods of high work pace, which requires the ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy, structure, and a sense of quality. To succeed in this role, you need to be confident in your craft, well-organized, and good at planning and prioritizing. You should enjoy working independently and on your own initiative, but you also have a good ability to collaborate with and engage colleagues within the department. As a person, we hope you are creative, recognize the importance of collaboration, and have strong problem-solving skills. You are expected to be a role model in a value-creating organization and contribute to a safe and pleasant working environment, in line with the Royal Opera's leadership and employee philosophy.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Training as a tailor with several years of experience working in tailoring. You also have additional training in pattern making.
- Experience in costume design, theater production, or similar areas is an advantage. Experience in pattern making and sewing is a requirement.
- Previous experience in supervising and effectively planning and organizing work is important.
- Very good knowledge of textile materials, pattern making of historical garments.
- Your English language skills are very good, and you have basic computer skills, especially in Office. Swedish is our working language, which requires understanding and expression.
- We are facing significant changes given the relocation from the Opera House during a planned multi-year renovation, so adaptability and change management are required to succeed in this role.

EMPLOYMENT
The position is a permanent employment with a 6-month probationary period. Working hours are daytime, 40 hours/week. Start date according to agreement.
